“Filming sex is an art.”

Both begin with stories that could belong in any mainstream cinema circuit. Their characters, conflicts and genre sustain the narrative. The difference lies in how the sex scenes are shown: when the story reaches them, the camera stays and shows them explicitly.
Sex is another element of the narrative. It can bring tension, drama or comedy, depending on what each film needs.
Suspense interests me enormously, especially what happens when we mix traditional genres with explicit sex. In Kleptolagnia, the viewer senses that something is happening without quite knowing what it is.
Amid that tension, sex appears and draws their attention. The unsettling signs move into the background as the story continues to unfold.
As viewers, we have a curiosity, a slightly indiscreet side: we want to see a little more of the intimacy the film has brought us close to. Showing it lets us satisfy that curiosity and also enjoy how it is filmed.
Filming sex is an art. It requires a way of looking and a way of building images and sounds.
I seek an aesthetic experience. I think of the sequence as a music video or a perfectly orchestrated dance between the camera, the light, the sound and the characters.
All those elements need to connect. Rhythm, framing and movement are part of the staging and of how the story is told.
During filming, there is already a sense of the speed and tone the music will have. That guides the rhythm of the sequence, although I choose the specific song when it is time to edit. That is when image and sound find their final form.
